Account setup checklist
The handful of things worth setting up before your first real estimate.
The Settings page includes a Setup Progress indicator that tracks your onboarding. Complete these steps to get full value from DarkBird:
- Add at least one Category (Library → Install Cards → Categories)
- Add your WBS Phases in the correct delivery order (Settings → Phases). Optionally group them into Phase Sets (e.g. one set per project type — Security, MSP, AV) and pick a set when creating a project to scope its work plan.
- Add Resources with accurate Burden and Billable Rates (Settings → Resources)
- Build at least 5 Install Cards — use the Quick Start Wizard or the Expert Assistant (Library → Install Cards)
- Connect a PSA or CRM integration if you use one (Settings → Integrations)
- Run your first scoping interview on a real or test project
Tip
The Setup Progress indicator in Settings shows your current completion status and links directly to each remaining step.
Note
New organizations start pre-seeded. Signup asks which vertical you are in (MSP, AV, Security, Low-Voltage) and seeds a starter set of categories, phases, resources, and units of measure for that vertical — fully editable, not locked demo data. Several checklist steps above may already show complete on day one; customize the seeded data to match your actual labor and pricing rather than starting from a blank slate.
