DarkBird vs Zomentum

Zomentum works on turning proposals into revenue. DarkBird works on whether the hours inside the proposal were right. Different problems, same deal.

What is Zomentum?

Zomentum positions itself as "The All-in-One Revenue Platform for Service Businesses," with the tagline "Turn Every Proposal Into Revenue." It serves MSPs, VARs and IT solution providers, plus consultants, agencies, accountants, construction and HVAC businesses.

The platform spans proposal and contract creation with AI assistance, e-signature and CRM, integrated payment collection, renewal and approval automation, and reporting. It advertises 50+ integrations including Autotask, HaloPSA, ConnectWise Manage, Syncro, Ingram Micro, QuickBooks and Xero.

What is DarkBird?

DarkBird is a labor estimation engine for AV integrators, MSPs, and low-voltage / security firms. It encodes how long installs actually take as reusable Install Cards — labor templates with quantity-bracketed hours per task — then scopes new projects through an AI expert interview and generates a client-ready scope of work.

The part no proposal tool does: after delivery, time entries pull back from ConnectWise Manage or HaloPSA and recalibrate every card. Estimates that ran 30% low get flagged and corrected. Your estimating gets more accurate with every completed project.

Where they differ

Agent-callable API

DarkBird

A live Model Context Protocol server with eight tools plus a REST API, both on an org-scoped key. Your Install Cards, projects, current suggestions and estimate accuracy are readable from Claude or any MCP client. Decisions that rewrite estimating data stay with a signed-in Owner or Admin.

Zomentum

Not part of their public positioning.

Where it sits in the deal

DarkBird

Before the proposal: working out scope and hours.

Zomentum

From the proposal onward: sending, signing, collecting, renewing.

Core object

DarkBird

The Install Card — quantity-bracketed labor hours per task, calibrated from actuals.

Zomentum

The proposal and the revenue motion around it.

Breadth vs depth

DarkBird

Narrow on purpose: labor estimation for deliverable-based technical services, with deep domain knowledge in those trades.

Zomentum

Deliberately broad — multiple service industries, and the full sales and revenue workflow.

What happens after delivery

DarkBird

Actuals return from the PSA and change the estimate.

Zomentum

Renewals, expansion and reporting; labor calibration is not part of the public positioning.

Zomentum is likely the better fit if…

  • Your gap is sales process: proposals, signatures, payment collection and renewals in one place.
  • You want a single tool spanning the commercial workflow rather than a specialist estimating engine.
  • Your labor estimates are already reliable and the constraint is closing deals faster.

DarkBird is likely the better fit if…

  • The proposals close and the projects lose money.
  • Your work is install-shaped — cameras, drops, rooms, sites — where hours scale with quantity.
  • You want the estimating knowledge out of one senior person's head and into something reusable.

Frequently asked questions

Is DarkBird a Zomentum alternative?

Not really. Zomentum is a sales and revenue platform; DarkBird is an estimating engine. A shop could reasonably run DarkBird to decide the hours and Zomentum to sell the result. There is no direct integration between them today.

Does DarkBird do e-signature or payments?

No. DarkBird generates a scope of work; signature, payment and renewal workflows are not part of it. Subscription billing in DarkBird is for DarkBird itself, not for your clients.

We serve several industries. Does DarkBird fit?

Only where labor scales with installed quantity — AV, security, low-voltage, fire, controls, and MSP project work. If your delivery is consulting-shaped rather than install-shaped, DarkBird's model will not fit well, and that is worth knowing before a trial.
